Volunteer Activities• Office/Clerical • Visitor Information • General Assistance Photo Courtesy of FS DescriptionTired of spending the hot Phoenix summers stuck at home with nothing to do?  Consider volunteering your weekends as a gatehouse attendant at beautiful Saguaro Lake.  Volunteer gatehouse attendants are the primary contact for all visitors to Saguaro Lake Recreation Site. Saguaro Lake is set in the beautiful Sonoran Desert and is rimmed with canyon walls.  As the name implies, the shores of the lake are studded with majestic Saguaro cactus.  The lake is 1264 acres of crystal clear water at an elevation of 1506 feet above sea level with views of Stewart Mountain.  Located 4 miles east of AZ-87 off the Bush Highway. Duties and responsibilities of Gatehouse Attendant include: Staff the air-conditioned Gatehouse to greet visitors, check passes, assists visitors in obtaining passes. Provide brochures, maps, and flyers to visitors. Direct visitors to various parts of recreation area including fee machines, parking waiting area for boats and beaches. Provide updates to Ranger Offices and other recreation facilities in the area. Report maintenance issues and suspicious/inappropriate visitor activity to Forest Service staff members and/or Law Enforcement. Restock gatehouse supplies as needed. Successfully completes all required training. This volunteer position has no supervisory responsibilities.  Volunteer should be able to read and write simple correspondence. Bi-lingual would be great, but not necessary.  Some customer service experience would also be a plus.  Due to the nature of this position, couples or teams of 2 are preferred.  Many times one member of the team will be out in the parking areas checking on availability and relaying information back to the other member of the team at the gatehouse.  Don’t be put off if you are a single.  In an effort to provide consistent and dependable service to our visitors, this opportunity requires a commitment of a minimum of 6 weeks of weekends and holidays. Local to the metropolitan Phoenix area is preferred but for those who would like to take advantage of our RV Sites, you must have your own RV and be willing to work 24 hours a week minimum.  Total hours may come from work at other Lower Salt River Recreation Sites.
