Volunteer Activities• Campground Host • Visitor Information • General Assistance Photo Courtesy of USBR DescriptionThe Bureau of Reclamation is seeking volunteers at its New Melones Lake, located in the beautiful rolling hills of California’s gold country, 10 miles north of downtown Sonora at 6850 Studhorse Flat Road. Volunteers work 4 days on and 3 days off, hours include weekends, evenings and holidays. Dates are flexible, positions range on average from 3- 6 months, starting April to September, October to December and January to March. Volunteers may work towards acquiring annual day use, boat launch and federal park passes with hours worked. A full hook-up campsite with water, sewer, and electric service up to 50 amps is provided for a minimum of 20 hours, per occupant, each week. Volunteers must have their own recreational vehicle or trailer. An electric vehicle is provided to facilitate coverage of the campground and to assist campers. No janitorial services are required. No experience necessary; however, working with diverse populations, enjoying people and being reliable are desired attributes. Volunteer opportunities include supporting the Ranger staff in campground operations: Greeting visitors, answering phone calls, questions, and providing resources such as maps and guides of New Melones Lake and surrounding areas.
