JOB DESCRIPTION:
*Please Note: This is a full-time, 32-a week position from the end of November to the beginning of April. Couples may apply. The location of this volunteer opportunity is based out of the Ernest F. Coe Visitor Center near the Homestead, FL entrance of the park.
The tourism management volunteer positions will support the Commercial Services Program in Everglades National Park performing front-country oversight of commercial operators as well.
Major Duties:
- Provides direct support to the commercial visitor services operations of Big Cypress National Preserve and Biscayne, Dry Tortugas, and Everglades National Parks
- Assists with implementation of commercial services training workshops
- Provides “eyes and ears” for commercial operators’ compliance
- Travel around park via government vehicle and document activity
- Provide information to visitors while moving throughout the park
- Maintain consistent communication with volunteer supervisor. Reports vandalism and safety hazards, as well as repairs needed to facilities
- There may be opportunities to assist other units of the National Park Service in South Florida – Big Cypress National Preserve and Biscayne National Park
- Other duties as necessary (with training)
Volunteer will work 32 hours a week, which may include weekends and holidays. A valid driver’s license is required. Working conditions include walking and standing indoors and outdoors. Volunteer uniforms and training will be provided by the park.
Volunteers will have free trailer pads and hook ups- electricity, water, and sewer- for RV near the Homestead entrance of the park. Free laundry facilities are available in the housing area. Housing is located one mile from work site – the Ernest F. Coe Visitor Center. All cost for housing is paid by NPS at no expense to the volunteer.
Prior to the selection process, all volunteer applicants will be interviewed and will have the opportunity to speak with the volunteer supervisor. This will give applicants the opportunity to ask questions that are specific to their situation and needs.
