JOB DESCRIPTION:

Description

We’re looking for friendly singles or couples to serve as Camp Hosts at Macks Creek Campground. Spend your days with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Macks Creek, surrounded by mountains and located on the beautiful Lucky Peak Lake along Arrowrock Road!

As Camp Host at Macks Creek, your primary role will be assisting visitors, maintaining reservation notices at all 15 campsites, and handling check-ins and check-outs. This park is exceptionally busy during the summer and is reservation only May 15-September 15. Hosts play an essential role in providing friendly, helpful visitor assistance, answering questions, and ensuring a positive experience.

Duties for this position include, but are not limited to:

• Visitor assistance

• Maintain reservation notices at all 15 campsites

• Assisting with check-ins and check-outs

• Distribute interpretive materials

• Radio communication

• Report rule violations to rangers

• Light tidy/stocking of restrooms

• Light grounds keeping

• ATV/UTV operation

• Attend water safety and basic first aid training

Time Commitment

Volunteers needed for the following 4-month commitment: May-August 2026. Shorter or longer commitments will be considered based on your availability and project needs. This position requires working a minimum of 32 hours per week which include working weekends and holidays. Exceptions are considered, we only ask communicating any needs or other personal obligations ahead of time.

Amenities

The host site includes a covered, paved RV pad with water, sewer, and electric hookups, as well as trash service. A 500-gallon potable water tank will be provided and refilled as needed by ranger staff. The host site does have Verizon cellular service, along with an emergency phone and landline for safety. Hosts are encouraged to bring their own Wi-Fi for personal streaming and are responsible for full connectivity during their stay. A Kawasaki Mule will be provided for rounds, and all necessary uniform components, safety equipment, and training will be supplied. Travel reimbursements and meal expenses may also be available.

Last but not least, you’ll enjoy a beautiful and peaceful spot to call home at Macks Creek surrounded by nature with Boise, Idaho City, and Arrowrock not far away offering the perfect balance of outdoor adventure and urban convenience. The campground is surrounded by over 4,000 acres of public land and 35-40 minutes outside Boise, ID. Downtown Boise is just 25 miles away, boasting year-round arts, dining, and entertainment, along with the 210-mile Ridge to Rivers trail system and the 25-mile Boise River Greenbelt. The Boise River is easily accessible, offering a wide variety of outdoor activities during the summer. To the east, past Arrowrock Dam, the 2.6 million-acre Boise National Forest offers endless opportunities for trout fishing, hunting, backpacking, and more. For even more adventure, head north to Idaho City to explore historic sites, hot springs, and breathtaking scenery!

Environmental Considerations

Macks Creek Campground is nestled near Arrowrock Dam and the Boise National Forest, with beautiful but sometimes steep terrain. Hosts will be provided with a UTV to help with rounds, but Idaho summers can bring extreme temperatures and sudden weather changes, so it’s important to be prepared. The campground is mostly level, but there are a few areas with slight elevation changes that require some physical effort. Being a bit off the beaten path, the area is considered remote, and emergency response times can vary. Though, Rangers and Law Enforcement frequently patrol the area.
