DESCRIPTION:

Camp Host ten miles from the Washington Monument! Greenbelt Park is located in suburban Greenbelt, Maryland. Help visitors enjoy affordable camping, peaceful surroundings and be a part of the National Park Service hospitality. Greenbelt Park has a 172 site campground, nine miles of trails and three picnic areas.

 

Campground hosts represent the National Park Service and are a valuable asset to the park’s campground operation. Hosts deal with a variety of people and personalities. Major duties and requirements of this position are listed below. Hosts are not required to take on law enforcement issues; however they do serve as very important eyes and ears in the campgrounds and aid in reporting any problems or situations to park rangers. Most of all, Greenbelt Park hosts ensure that park visitors have as safe and enjoyable a visit as possible. As emissaries of the NPS, hosts can make the difference between an adequate and an excellent camping experience.

 

 

DUTIES
HOURS: Two days at the Ranger Station from 8:00 – 345 pm and other two days at camp site from 3:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. Two off days (selected during the week) Gate closing responsibilities.

 

ROLE

Volunteer Campground Hosts work in the campground assisting with nightly gate closure and providing customer service to visitors. They also serve as eyes and ears for Park Rangers and the United States Park Police in their assigned campground.

 

 

DUTIES

•Duties vary, but can be a combination of the following:

•Live at the campground for their assigned time period – unless otherwise specified by Park Manager.

•Ability to work well with the staff

•Verify campers registration through recreation.gov and issued Site taken plastic card)

•Educate (NOT ENFORCE) campers about park rules, National Park Service mission and the protection of natural resources

•Communicate potential or actual problems to the rangers and/or United States Park Police. Do not take matters into your own hands.

•Must provide own living quarters – trailer or RV required

•Answer visitor questions and provide them with excellent customer service

•Willing to work schedule set by Park Volunteer coordinator that include weekend evenings in exchange for a campsite, water, sewer, and electrical hookup

•Assist campers with check in procedure

– Fill out nightly campground sheet

-Close public picnic areas by closing and locking gate. Close public parking area by closing and locking gate.

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS
•Friendly and courteous to staff and park visitors and the ability to communicate clearly with them

•Orientation with Park Volunteer Coordinator

•Provide own transportation and living quarters

•Abide by & educate visitors on park regulations and safety guidelines

•Agree to a criminal and motor vehicle background check
