DESCRIPTION:

The Southwest Arizona National Wildlife Refuge Complex is composed of the Cibola, Imperial and Kofa National Wildlife Refuges. Each refuge has its unique traits and plays an important role in conservation in the southwest. The Complex is seeking volunteers to staff the Visitor Center to help visitors learn more about the refuges.

Each refuge has its unique traits and plays an important role in conservation in the southwest. Volunteers play a crucial role in helping the Complex meet its management goals and informing the public about the Fish and Wildlife Service, the National Wildlife Refuge System and the refuges within the Complex specifically. The SWAZ Complex Visitor Center Volunteer position requires a commitment of 24-30 hours per volunteer per week. Teams of couples are preferred, but not mandatory, we have an opening for one team. The Complex has a RV space that it rents in a nearby RV park for the duration of the volunteer term (We are currently seeking volunteers for November 2023 – March 2024, shorter or longer tours can be negotiated)

DUTIES
  • Greet visitors and provide information about the refuges
  • Answer and direct calls
  • Restock brochures inside and in the display outside the visitor center
  • Complete minor repairs around the visitor center
  • Be available to assist with special events and interpretive programs
  • Wear U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service volunteer’s uniform
  • Drive a refuge vehicle
  • Other duties may be assigned by Site or Direct supervisor.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

·        Pleasant, positive attitude

·        Desire to talk with and inform the public about rules and regulations

·        Must be able to carry 30 pounds over short distances

·        Must possess a valid driver’s license

·        Willing to work 24-30 hours per week, no weekends are required

·        Must wear USFWS volunteer uniform

·        Enthusiasm and willingness to learn
