Job Description

The Oconto County Parks & Forestry Department is seeking a motivated and enthusiastic individual to serve as the Campground Host for the 2023 camping season.

Chute Pond campground is located in northern Oconto County on Chute Pond, a 433-acre lake approximately 5 miles south of Mountain, WI. It is the highest-use campground in the Oconto County & consists of 73 daily use sites (group sites included) as well as 35 seasonal (year-round rental) sites. There are 3 toilet facilities with indoor plumbing (including shower facilities), multiple pit toilets, a playground, swimming area, hiking trails, & the locally famous “Big Rock” and “Slippery Rock” natural attractions. There are 3 county-operated boat launches on Chute Pond. The campground & area is a popular vacation spot in the county for a variety of activities, including boating, fishing, hiking, swimming, and camping. Recreational vehicles (ATV’s, UTV’s, etc.) are not allowed in the campground.

Duties will include providing campground and recreational area information and rules to campers and visitors. Answering visitors’ questions and providing information about local services and attractions. Help campers and visitors contact emergency assistance as needed. Patrols campground and recreational areas on a regular basis to assess and report on the status of said areas to the Assistant Park Administrator. Regularly inspects campground restrooms, picnic shelters, campsites, campfire pits, and swimming/fishing areas to ensure they are safe and clean for public use. Preforms minor janitorial duties within county park to include, but not limited to, garbage pickups, cleaning toilets, and general grounds maintenance. Enforces park rules when needed.

Compensation for this role with be the seasonal use of camp site with full hookup for a personal camper or one can be provided if needed. Work hours will vary, which likely include nights, weekends and holidays with a majority of the hours being between Memorial Day and Labor Day.
