JOB DESCRIPTION:

Background

Bill Williams River NWR, near the lower Colorado River in western Arizona, encompasses 6,100 acres of river, marsh, riparian forests, and desert. Located within the transition zone between the Mojave and Sonoran deserts, the refuge is home to a diverse range of wildlife and was established to support migratory birds.

Bill Williams River NWR is part of the Lake Havasu Refuges Complex along with the Havasu refuge which follows the Lower Colorado River from Golden Shores to Lake Havasu City.

Volunteer Position

The refuge is seeking 1-2 volunteers to assist with refuge operations. Primary duties include welcoming and orienting visitors, assisting with regular interpretive programs and outreach events, refilling brochures, and maintaining trails, bathrooms, and other public facilities. Other duties may include assisting with general maintenance of facilities/grounds, vehicles, and equipment depending on volunteer skills, certifications, and abilities. Applicants must be willing to assist with both Visitor Center/administrative duties as well as general maintenance duties to be considered.

A valid driver’s license is required. Completion of a defensive driving course (training is provided) is required in order to operate government vehicles.

In return for a minimum 24 hours of work per week per person, we will provide a full hookup RV site (electricity, water and sewer hookup) at Bill Williams River NWR.
