WORK ENVIRONMENT

Steel Bridge Campground is a semi-developed campground nestled in the forest along the Wild and Scenic Trinity River. It is located 5.7 miles east of the small town of Douglas City, 12 miles east of the nearest major town, Weaverville, and about 35 miles from Redding, where the BLM Field Office is located. With 12 tent/trailer sites and access to vault toilets, no water, no showers, and no electricity (Campground Host will have access to limited solar powered electricity), it provides easy access to a popular river access location. Popular with fisherman and pleasure boaters alike, this clear, cold section of the river is world famous for its fly fishing. Paddlers enjoy the narrow valley with Ponderosa Pine, Douglas fir, Oaks, and Madrone trees coating the walls of the canyons.

The Campground Host will stay at a dedicated site with limited, solar powered electricity while using the same vault toilets as the guests. There is no running water, showers, or sewage facilities at the campground. Cell phone service is spotty at site but reliable service can be found nearby.

The Campground Host will need keep a watchful eye to ensure a quality experience for the campground’s registered, paying guests. The most successful Campground Hosts have held a proactive and positive attitude, engaging visitors as they arrive and on a regular basis, which prevents the majority of potential conflicts and abuse of the campground.
