Clay County Park is located west of Vermillion, SD, just a quarter mile away from the last natural stretch of the Missouri River, which has a public access boat ramp. Vermillion offers a large variety of eating establishments, stores, bars, museums and more. It is also the home of the University of South Dakota.

 

Job opening: Work Camper(s)

The Clay County Park Association seeks to hire a seven (7)-month, full-time (maximum 40 hours per week) Work Camper to assist customers; enforce campground rules and policies; answer phone calls/internet requests for campground; manage and assist customers with the campground’s online Bonfire reservation system; clean campground common-use facilities; and perform general campground and grounds maintenance duties. The Work Camper job will be performed by 1 person or a team of 2 individuals sharing the duties, responsibilities, and compensation for the position.

Duties include, but are not limited to:

● Mowing and weed-eating all trails, campground, day use, gun, rodeo, and boat landing areas

● Cleaning all common use facilities (campground restrooms, boat landing restroom, litter, etc.), camping cabin, fire pits, and other Park areas as determined by the Park Manager

● Maintain Work Camper site and maintenance storage area and ensure it is always presentable to the public

● Perform general camp maintenance (picking up sticks or small fallen limbs, watering trees, light duty jobs, small repairs, etc.)

● Conduct an inventory of all tools and Clay County Park property at the beginning and end of each season

● Maintain firewood supply and sell firewood( Bundled fire wood is delivered to Park).

● Provide campground management and customer service (ensure campers are in correct spots, answer campers’ questions, handle camper concerns and complaints, etc.)

● Communicate up to the Park Manager for assistance as needed

● Contact appropriate emergency personnel if necessary

● Be available for emergencies during peak camping days

● Heavier lifting and larger maintenance jobs will be hired out as needed, such as clearing trees from the trail system

.At least 1 Work Camper is required to be available and on-site to provide on-call, daytime, evening, and weekend services during the months of April-October. Advance notice of “time off” needs to be made 2 weeks in advance. A maximum of 2 pets are allowed at the Work Camper campsite.

This is an 7-month, hourly position (April 1-October 31) where the individual(s) may work more hours some months and fewer hours other months depending on Park needs.

COMPENSATION: One RV site with full hookups for April-October–to be shared if more than one Work Camper–(valued at $6,300.00), internet access via a phone hotspot (valued at $210.00), plus an hourly wage of $11.00/hour, DOE, for a maximum of forty (40) hours per week for the position (e.g., if the work is completed as a team of 2, the Work Campers may divide the total weekly hours as they choose in consultation with the Park Manager, if necessary).
