DEPT: National Park Service
JOB DESCRIPTION:
Please thoroughly review the following description for details and instructions on filling out your application. Incomplete applications will not be considered.
Rocky Mountain National Park is recruiting for one campground host (or pair of hosts) for Glacier Basin Campground. Priority will be given to applicants who are able to serve the entire season, from May 14th through September 8th.
Most campground host sites can accommodate an RV or trailer that is up to 35 or 40ft in length. Electric hookups are 30 or 40 amps, and adapters may be available. Most campgrounds have full hookups.
Schedule: 3 days on, 3 days off. You will work with at least one other campground host. Hosts will need to serve at least 32 hours per week to qualify for park housing, (an RV/trailer site at the campground) but may be required to serve more. You may not be able to work the same days of the week, every week. For example, you might work Monday-Wednesday one week, Sunday-Tuesday into the next week, Saturday-Monday into the following week, etc. Specific days/hours of shifts will be decided between the hosts and the campground supervisor.
Duties include, but are not limited to: cleaning out fire pits, removing debris from campsites, encouraging compliance with campground rules, reporting any disturbances to the park’s law enforcement, and following instructions from park staff. Volunteers will be required to work long hours on their feet. Volunteers must be kind, welcoming, and professional with all visitors and fellow staff.
All campground hosts are required to:
Complete and pass a federal background investigation. All background investigation paperwork and fingerprinting must be completed promptly, upon selection. This process includes completing paper forms, getting fingerprints taken, and completing a lengthy online form.
Attend campground orientation and training on May 16th and 17th, and review additional training materials as assigned.
Complete volunteer paperwork online via Volunteer.gov.
Report volunteer hours via Volunteer.gov and a paper timesheet.
In your application, include the following in the ‘Previous Volunteer Experience’ section:
Any past experience serving as a campground host for a national park, national forest, state park, or other campground. You are welcome to add additional volunteer experience that does not directly relate to campgrounds, as well.
In your application, include the following information in the ‘Any other additional qualifications?’ section:
Your dates of availability
The length of your trailer/RV
Why you believe that you are a good fit for this position
