DESCRIPTION:
Live, work, play and serve visitors in scenic Moab, UT! Home of red rock and blue skies, Moab is an adventure mecca, offering hiking, biking, climbing, river rafting, 4-wheel driving, scenic drives and much more. Moab offers a full range of amenities and services, and serves as the base camp for exploring millions of acres of breathtaking BLM lands, Arches and Canyonlands National Parks, Dead Horse Point and Utahraptor State Parks, and Manti-La Sal National Forest.
The campground host will represent the BLM and provide visitor information, encourage fee compliance, conduct daily campground inspections, and perform light cleaning and maintenance. Expect daily interactions with visitors, including answering questions regarding area recreational opportunities, and informing visitors of rules and regulations within the campground. Hosting duties include but are not limited to, daily campground fee compliance, monitoring facilities and performing light cleaning and repairs. Report needed repairs and incidents to staff. Spring season generally runs from March through early June. Fall season generally runs from September through early December.
- Provide a visual presence in the campground. Uniform shirt, vest or hat is required while on duty. Dress should be casual, but clean and professional.
- Encourage public compliance with campground rules including the payment of fees.
- Stock the fee envelope box.
- Check payment tags for current dates and remove old tags from camp posts. Tags are not to be removed before 10am if site is still occupied.
- Provide visitor information on campground rules and recreation opportunities in the area.
- Conduct inspections of the campground(s) on a daily basis (five days per week) reporting any vandalism, maintenance needs or safety concerns. These five days should include peak use periods such as weekends and holidays. Days off are early to mid-week.
- Make changes to the group site calendars as needed.
- Do not collect fees or carry fee envelopes to the fee safe. You are not allowed to accept tips.
- While you are in the campground, make yourself accessible to campers to answer questions and respond to emergencies. In an emergency, call 911 to activate EMS resources.
- Light maintenance in the campgrounds (i.e. picking up litter, replacing site clips, sweeping bathrooms, etc.)
Expectations and Conduct
- Maintain professional etiquette and appearance. Uniform shirt, vest or hat is required while on duty. Please do not smoke while on-duty contacting visitors.
- Keep “Camphost” sign visible. Keep site tidy and free of debris. Keep your personal equipment and supplies to a minimum and within the site boundaries. It should not appear that you are “homesteading”.
- Host site may not be used for any business purpose.
- Host site use is limited to the host and immediate family; no other persons may live at the host site.
- Guest may stay in the host RV, tent, or trailer during visits; as long as guest with camping equipment and/or RV’s fit in the site, If not they should occupy a separate site at the campground.
- Pets must be leashed at all times outside the host RV or trailer.
- Hosts are not permitted to make exceptions to campground rules.
- No persons other than the assigned camp hosts should perform host duties without permission from the Moab Field Office.
- Hosts are expected to work cooperatively with BLM employees. Visitor or employee complaints will be fully investigated and may result in the termination of the host agreement.
A host with previous campground hosting experience is preferred. Hosts are required to have their own trailer or RV to camp in and must complete a background check paid for by the BLM. Customer service skills and the ability to respectfully resolve minor issues is required. Hosts do no posses law enforcement authority and will not act as such.

Location: Hosts manage busy BLM Campgrounds located along the popular scenic by-ways including Highways 128 (Colorado Riverway), 279 and 313, and the Canyon Rims and Kane Creek roads. Visit www.discovermoab.com for a map of BLM campground locations. Below is a list of Campground Host locations:
- Goose Island (Hwy 128): Checks Grandstaff 1-2x/day; (Vault in #4)
- Big Bend (Hwy 128): Checks Hal, Oak, Drinks and Upper Big Bend at least 3x/week (Vault in #6)
- Hittle Bottom (Hwy 128): Checks Lower Onion Creek, Upper Onion Creek, Fisher Towers and Dewey at least 2-3x/week. (Vault in #1)
- Horsethief (Hwy 313): Checks Lone Mesa and Cowboy Camp 3-4x/week (Vault in #1 & #47)
- North Klondike (HWY 191) Checks Rocks Castle 2X/week (Vault in #9)
- Kings Bottom (Kane Creek): Checks Moonflower daily; Hunter, The Ledges at least 2x/week. (Vault in #10)
- Williams Bottom (Hwy 279): Checks Jaycee and Gold Bar at least 2-3x/wk. (Vault in #1)
- Windwhistle (Canyon Rims): Checks Hatch Point, Needles Overlook and Anticline Overlook 1-2/week. (Vault in #4)
- Ken’s Lake (Vault in #48)
Terrain: Canyons and mesas (elevation 4000-6000 feet). Cottonwoods & oaks along rivers: pinyon-junipers on mesas. Some campgrounds have more shade than others.
Precipitation: Average annual rainfall is 10 inches. Much of this is from quick moving storms and light winter snowfalls.
Temperatures: Spring and fall day temperatures range from 60-70s and nights from 40-50 degrees. Summers range from 90-100 degrees during the day with nighttime temperatures between 50-70 degrees.
Housing: Hosts provide & reside in their own RV. Heating for early spring and late fall nights and air conditioning /cooling system for May through September are highly desirable. Hosts provide their own propane and/generators (operating hours 8am-8pm) and their own functioning transport vehicle for campground needs, obtaining personal provisions, as well as recreation on free days.
Electricity & Propane: No propane available. Electricity may be available pending solar trailer availability. Vaults at camp host site for sewer (may not be the site with most shade).
Water: No water on-site. Water available in Moab and BLM can provide 40 gallon containers.
