JOB DESCRIPTION:
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is recruiting park hosts for Okatibbee Lake, located seven miles northwest of Meridian, MS. Okatibbee Lake is an 11,000-acre multi-purpose project built to provide flood damage reduction, improve water quality and supply water for downstream communities. Along with one Class AA campground, the project has four-day use parks with four designated swimming areas and five boat ramps.
Volunteers must be 21 years or older. The volunteer shall furnish a factory-built, “self-contained” recreational vehicle (RV) of the travel trailer or motor home type to serve as temporary living quarters. The unit shall be equipped with electrical hookup not to exceed 50 AMP’s and shall be at least 18 feet in length. Volunteers are required to work at least 25 hours per week, be physically and mentally capable of performing volunteer tasks, capable of talking to the public a plus, experience assisting visitors a plus. All applicants must pass a federal background check.
Park host will be required to work 10 am – 8 pm (whenever the gate closes), 4 days on/4 days off. Park hosts will assist visitors with reservations, checking visitors in and out of the campground, park beautification issuing parking passes, provide information and visitor assistance. The park hosts will also be responsible for patrolling the park daily checking for rules compliance and parking issues. Volunteers will work closely with uniformed Park Rangers, other volunteers and park attendant staff. Volunteers may be required to run credit cards but will not be collecting any cash payments.
