ADDRESS: Red Rock Canyon Campground
Moenkopi Loop  Las Vegas, Nevada, 89161

DATES: 8/19/2026 – 6/9/2027

DEPT: Bureau of Land Management

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Experience the stunning red- and cream-colored sandstone cliffs and the natural wonders of the Mojave Desert, located just 17 miles west of the Las Vegas Strip. Red Rock National Conservation Area (NCA) features world-class climbing, miles of hiking trails, a 13-mile scenic drive, visitor center, multiple day-use areas, and campground. The campground has 53 individual standard sites, 10 walk-to sites, 6 RV Sites, and 7 large group sites equipped with amenities such as drinking water, picnic tables, pit toilets, campfire rings, and grills. Reservations for the campground are made thru Recreation.gov. The closest grocery store, pharmacy, medical services, gym, and laundry facilities are located in Las Vegas’ urban, residential community of Summerlin, about 10 minutes away.

Camp Host sites include full hookups for water, sewer, propane, and power. Please note that while there is intermittent cell service, Wi-Fi is NOT provided at the campground. Free Wi-Fi is available at the Visitor Center, located 4 miles from the campground. Previous camp hosts have successfully set up their own satellites and internet connections. If you telework/work remotely, securing reliable internet is your responsibility.

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

Becoming a Campground Host is a volunteer opportunity that provides a non-itemized reimbursement for expenses, currently not to exceed $42 per day per person. Camp Hosts greet visitors and assist guests in a friendly and professional manner while wearing the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) volunteer uniform during their shifts. Hosts must provide excellent customer service and maintain a neat appearance while managing daily operations, including visitor interactions and campground maintenance.

Please note that while intermittent cell service is available, Wi-Fi is NOT provided at the campground. Free Wi-Fi is available at the Visitor Center, located approximately 4 miles away. Some previous Camp Hosts have successfully set up their own satellite or mobile internet systems. If you telework or work remotely, securing reliable internet access is your responsibility.

The campground is open from September 1 to May 31, with flexible start and end dates. However, hosts are preferred to arrive slightly before and remain shortly after this timeframe to assist with seasonal preparations. Responsibilities are primarily performed outdoors and may be physically demanding, particularly during inclement weather. Duties include providing public information, processing reservations and fees, and cleaning facilities as needed.

Camp Hosts are also responsible for completing daily administrative tasks as outlined in the Camp Host Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), including managing the campground email account, reviewing and filing communications, and using the Recreation.gov HUB for required operational tasks.

Hosts must complete and submit written shift notes after every shift, documenting notable events, facility issues, illegal camping incidents, and any visitor interactions requiring follow‑up. These notes support BLM administrative processes and may be used for law‑enforcement or incident reporting.
