Description:

The Sulphur Ranger District is situated along the upper Colorado and Fraser rivers on the west side of the Continental Divide. Only 67 miles from Denver, Grand County is the ideal combination of authentic western adventure and unrivaled natural beauty. The ranger district is home to Colorado’s “Great Lakes” region, including seven lakes popular for boating and fishing; Winter Park Resort; and the mountain-biking capital of Colorado. The nearby town of Grand Lake serves as the western gateway to Rocky Mountain National Park. In addition to world-class skiing, Grand County offers horseback riding, mountain biking, hiking, rafting, fishing, boating, snowshoeing and a host of other unique Colorado activities. Grand County and its communities, including Kremmling, Granby, Winter Park/Fraser, Grand Lake, and Hot Sulphur Springs, are surrounded by snow-capped peaks, forested mountains and rolling ranch lands.

The RV pads are located in Shadow Mountain Work Center, 4 miles south of Grand Lake, off US Highway 34. This is a communal work and residential area which is only accessible to USFS staff and other volunteers. This area lies on the waterfront of Shadow Mountain Lake and adjacent to Shadow Mountain Picnic Area. Rocky Mountain National Park lies just on the opposite side of the lake. Pets may be considered.

Perform maintenance on housing units and facilities at Shadow Mountain Work Center. Work may include cleaning vacant units, painting interior and exterior of units, occasional plumbing repairs (if qualified), basic electrical work (if qualified), lawn maintenance, and other repairs as necessary. A willingness to take initiative and complete tasks with minimal supervision is preferred.
