DESCRIPTION:

Carlyle Lake, located in Carlyle, IL, is seeking individuals or couples to fill two Visitor Center Attendant positions for the 2023 recreation season.

 

Carlyle Lake is seeking individuals or couples to fill two Visitor Center Attendant positions for the 2023 recreation season beginning April 1st and ending September 30th. If using an offered RV site, attendants must provide their own RV/Travel Trailer and may reside on a designated campsite, site 01 or site 03 within Dam West Campground, for the duration of the season. Site amenities include a full hookup site with water, sewer, electric and a short walk to a laundry facility. Internet access is available via WIFI within the campground. Dam West Campground is located .4 miles from the Carlyle Lake Visitor Center and 2 miles from the center of the City of Carlyle.

 

Visitor Center Volunteers serve as the point of contact for many visitors that are seeking information about Carlyle Lake. Duties include greeting visitors, answering phones, issuing America the Beautiful and Annual Passes, and general housekeeping of the visitor center. Applicants must be able to interact with the public and display a positive and professional attitude. All shifts shall be normal Visitor Center hours of operation, from 10:00 am – 6:00 pm. The schedule will consist of a 2-2-3 rotating schedule, where Attendant 1 will work Monday, Tuesday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday the first week, then work Wednesday, Thursday the following week. Attendant 2 will work the opposite days. This allows both attendants time off on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday every other weekend. A free full hook-up campsite (water, sewer, electric) provided in exchange for 56 hours of service every two weeks according to schedule. Site 01 or 03 in Dam West Campground.

 

DUTIES
Duties include but are not limited to:

1. Answer visitor questions regarding recreation opportunities in person or over the phone.

2. Inform visitors of park rules, regulations, and policies.

3. Issue America the Beautiful Passes and Corps of Engineers Annual Passes through a computer system.

4. General housekeeping, including sweeping, mopping, dusting, removing trash, and window cleaning.

5. Turn displays on before each shift and off after each shift.

6. Unlock and lock all doors before and after each shift.

7. Relay complaints and maintenance issues to Park Ranger staff through radio communication.

8. Assist with light duty landscape maintenance.

9. Feed aquatic animals according to schedule.

10. Restock brochures.

11. Record attendance of visitors

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS
1. Prior camping experience.

2. Prior experience with customer service.

3. Ability to sit or stand for significant periods of time.

4. Friendly, cheerful, organized, and professional manner.

5. Basic administrative skills, including basic computer skills.

6. Basic housekeeping skills.

7. Physical ability to lift approximately 30 pounds and carry for 25 feet.

8. Desire to meet and interact with people from varied backgrounds.

9. Appearance should be neat and reflect positively on the Corps.

10. Ability to remain calm in busy situations.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
Volunteers will work independently and mostly indoors.

 

The lake is located within a 5-minute drive of restaurants, grocery stores, retail stores, auto repair shops, entertainment venues, and medical facilities. The average high temperature occurs in July (88° F) and the average low occurs in January (19° F). On average, Carlyle Lake has 201 sunny days and gets 42 inches of rain per year.
