DESCRIPTION:

Volunteer interpreters assist at an information desk and a living historical farm, present history and nature programs to the public, and do a variety of other activities related to the park’s education program. Applicants for these positions should have some background in communication skills, like to work with people, and have some knowledge about a park’s resources.

 

The volunteer will represent the National Park Service at Lincoln Boyhood National Memorial. The volunteer will assist the National Park Service Interpretation Division in the operation and interpretation of the Memorial Visitor Center. The volunteer will add to the interpretation opportunities for visitors by presenting demonstrations and assisting with special events at the Lincoln Living Historical Farm.

 

DUTIES
Operation of a visitor center. Greet park visitors and provide information on cultural, historical, and natural points of interest in the park and area.
Conduct basic research on specific topics and synthesize the knowledge gained from research to develop interpretive experiences that are clearly consistent with the strategic goals and objectives of park interpretation.
Operate cooperating association cash register.
Assist with other IEVS team projects.

 

QUALIFICATIONS
Ability to work independently with little to no supervision and as part of a team.

Ability to communicate orally.

Ability to research and communicate facts about the resources at Lincoln Boyhood National Memorial.

Enjoy talking with and meeting people.

Ability to effectively deal with stressful situations, repetitive tasks, and large crowds.

An interest in Abraham Lincoln’s history.

Ability to abide by the rules and policies of the National Park Service.
