ADDRESS: Lower Granite Lake; 100 Fair Street; Clarkston, Washington 99403

DEPT: U.S. Army Corps of Engineers

DATES: 4/1/2022 – 9/30/2022

DESCRIPTION:

Seeking to fill 2 Visitor Center Host Positions from April 1 2022 to September 30, 2022.

The Lower Granite Lock and Dam Visitor Center is looking for a couple (or single person) to start April 1st until September 30th. At the Visitor Center you would greet visitors while promoting the Lower Granite Lake and Dam project, and the US Army Corps of Engineers mission. You would conduct tours/interpretive sessions related to the hydropower dam and fish passage facility, staff the bookstore, answer telephones, provide visitor information, stock brochures, uphold project and agency security standards; and assist with interpretation and outreach events. Also, some light housekeeping/maintenance and other duties as assigned. Be advised that the tours do require climbing stairs in certain portions of the Dam. The Lower Granite Visitor center has a welcoming friendly atmosphere so good customer service skills and people skills are a must.

You will receive a full hookup RV site on the beautiful Snake River with water, sewer, propane and electricity provided (50 amp max) in exchange for 25+ hours/week/per person. You must be able to work Friday, Saturday and Sundays plus Holidays. You will be staying in a private RV park for Corps employees and volunteers only. Also, included are all necessary uniform components, safety equipment (vest, hard hat, etc.), as well as support and training from the Park Ranger assigned to the Visitor Center. Internet access is available, but you are asked to split the $78/monthly fee with another work camper at the Visitor Center. The cellular service is only available through wifi so you will have to pay for the internet service if you wish to have cell service. This area uses a cellular extender that uses the internet connection to act as a small cell tower. Without it, there is no cell service. The Corps will provide the cellular extender.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Working mostly indoors independently and with USACE staff. The Lower Granite Lock & Dam is located on the Snake River in a somewhat remote but beautiful setting. The highway into, and out of, the Dam location is a good hard surface road. Traversing the canyons as you make your way down to river level is a colorful and interesting journey. The nearest town for groceries, gasoline and a hospital is 30 miles from the Dam site. You will receive a pass that allows you to cross the Dam in your vehicle so you can choose which towns to visit; and to allow you to explore areas of the Palouse and Camas prairies.
