DESCRIPTION:

Ensure the public completes Aquatic Invasive Species Self-Inspections at each of the three boat ramps on the east side of Tahoe National Forest through education and assistance. Direct Boaters to wash stations as needed and report possible contamination incidents immediately. Provide light bathroom maintenance, keep tally of visitors, and collect restock and submit inspection sheets. Assist public in keeping both parking area and boat launch orderly.

Watercraft Inspectors are expected to: be available three days/week from late May through early September and have full availability on the weekends. Season and days scheduled/week are subject to weather and usage rates. Inspectors are requested to be available for public interaction the majority of the day. Inspectors are not expected to contact visitors after daylight hours or to participate in law enforcement activities. Volunteers must have a Valid Drivers License and be willing to be fingerprinted, undergo a background investigation and provide references.

Volunteers will receive the following: $40 for each scheduled work day to expenses. A free private camping space with water and sewer hookups (space will accommodate up to 30′ trailer or RV max) will also be provided for the duration of the time worked. If a minimum of 200 Volunteer hours are completed under satisfactory terms then Volunteer will receive complimentary Federal Volunteer Pass.

 

DUTIES

Duties include: Welcoming visitors and providing appropriate Forest information, informing visitors of Forest Regulations and Reservoir Self-Inspection Requirements, Educate the public about Invasive Species spread, track daily arrivals and communicate with Supervisor, perform light bathroom maintenance and trash cleanup at the boat ramp, report emergencies or Invasive Species possible contamination or violations, provide Recreation staff with pertinent daily information, restock and collect Self Inspection forms, assist public in proper completion of AIS forms, assist public in keeping both parking area and boat launch orderly, and directing potentially contaminated vessels to the nearest wash station.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Applicants with knowledge of watercraft needed. Aquatic Invasive Species training will be provided, but knowledge of the topic and ways to prevent spread preferred. Applicants with customer experience who are organized, patient, and friendly are highly desired. First Aid Certification desired and recommended, but not required.
