JOB DESCRIPTION:
Wind Cave National Park is seeking enthusiastic and dedicated volunteers for the role of Campground Host at Elk Mountain Campground for the 2026 summer season. This position offers an opportunity to engage with visitors, support park operations, and enjoy the beautiful surroundings of one of South Dakota’s most treasured natural areas. This position requires applicants to provide their own living accommodations, such as a camper or travel trailer.
Responsibilities
As a Campground Host, your duties will include:
• Greeting and assisting campers with registration and site selection.
• Providing information about park facilities, activities, and regulations.
• Ensuring campground rules are followed to maintain a safe and enjoyable environment for all visitors.
• Conducting regular checks of the campground and reporting any issues to park staff.
• Assisting with light maintenance tasks, such as cleaning restrooms and campsites.
• Serving as a point of contact for campground operations and coordinating with park rangers as needed.
Qualifications
Ideal candidates for the Campground Host position will possess:
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• A friendly and welcoming attitude towards all visitors.
• Basic knowledge of campground operations and outdoor safety.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Flexibility to handle a variety of tasks and adapt to changing situations.
