DESCRIPTION:
St. Catherine Creek NWR is looking for a person to mow the tall grass, weeds, and shrubs. You’ll work mostly independently using the refuge riding mowers. There is an RV pad with full hookups (water, electric, sewer) available for free while volunteering a minimum of 20 hours per week, with a minimum term of 6 weeks. Laundry facilities are available as well for volunteers. All residents of the RV must work 20 hours, and we are happy to accommodate couples if we can find an appropriate position for your partner (for example, answering phones and helping at the office or weeding the garden).
DUTIES
Mostly mowing is what is needed. Small equipment maintenance like checking fluids and sharpening mower blades, using hand tools and erecting signs, cleaning signs, digging, and other miscellaneous tasks as needed to maintain roads, foot trails, parking lots, fences, and entrance kiosks at the wildlife refuge.
QUALIFICATIONS
Ability to use hand and foot controls for operating small equipment. Ability to follow a map and to record time. Ability to troubleshoot problems with engines, mower blades, and other small equipment or vehicle maintenance.
