Lake Mendocino is seeking to fill 2-4 Campground Host positions for the summer of 2023.

 

LAKE MENDOCINO & COYOTE VALLEY DAM is looking for passionate and experienced Volunteer Campground Hosts for the 2023 summer season! We are located in beautiful Northern California only a few hours away from breath-taking Redwood forests, the gorgeous Mendocino coast, and the lively city of San Francisco. Lake Mendocino has two lakeside campgrounds, offering a combined total of nearly 300 sites. Duties primarily consist of operating the host booth, monitoring the campground, and assisting visitors. Full hookup (sewer, water, electric) sites provided in exchange for 32 hours of work per week per volunteer.

 

DUTIES
Responsibilities:

1. Manage camper registration and maintain accurate records using the Recreation.gov platform.

2. Issue registration cards, vehicle tags, and 15-minute visitor passes when necessary.

3. Conduct campground checks and light general maintenance (litter pick-up, etc.).

4. Answer visitor questions regarding recreation opportunities and park rules.

5. Relay camper complaints and compliance issues to Park Ranger staff.

6. Open and close campground gates daily (when on duty).

 

Requirements:

1. Time requirement is 32 hours per week per volunteer.

2. Must wear approved and appropriate Volunteer attire.

3. Must provide own lodging – RV/Trailer (Sleeping in a camper-vehicle is not permitted).

4. Volunteers working as camp hosts at Lake Mendocino are typically asked to commit to a four-month period of service (May-Sept) to accommodate for higher visitation during the summer season.

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS
Qualifications:

1. Prior experience as Campground Host and Recreation.gov platform (preferred)

2. Prior experience with customer service

3. Familiarity with computer basics

4. Ability to sit or stand for significant periods of time

5. Ability to move about large campgrounds

6. Friendly, cheerful, adaptable, and professional manner

WORK ENVIRONMENT
Volunteer camp hosts work independently both indoors at an entrance booth and outdoors during campground rounds and while performing light general maintenance (i.e. litter pick-up, etc.). Please be advised that outdoor temperatures can reach 100°F or higher in the summer months.
