DESCRIPTION:
Seeking campground hosts for the Virgin River Canyon Recreation Area just south of St George, Utah off of Interstate 15.
The Bureau of Land Management is seeking campground hosts to provide onsite assistance in the management of the Virgin River Canyon Recreation Area. This recreation area is located about 20 south of St George, Utah and about 20 miles north of Mesquite, Nevada in the Virgin River Gorge just off of Interstate 15. This recreation area has 108 sites, paved roads, and three flush toilet restrooms. The main duties would be daily upkeep of the restrooms, keeping the sites clean, and greeting and providing information to visitors, and checking use area permits..
DUTIES
The main duties of the campground hosts would be cleaning and stocking of the restrooms. The hosts would also greet visitors and answer questions. The hosts also would keep the recreation area free of trash. Hosts would be reporting any problems occurring on the site, including suspected lack of permits/fee paid.
QUALIFICATIONS
We are looking for hosts that will be good representatives for the Bureau of Land Management. We are looking for past experience similar to the campground host duties, including experience cleaning restrooms, good visitor relations, familiarity with the campground lifestyles, familiarity with the surrounding area to answer questions, familiarity with BLM policies and procedures. We are looking for experience being safe in remote desert, campground environments.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
The campground is located directly off of Interstate 15 in the Virgin River Gorge. It is surrounded by mountainous Mojave Desert terrain, with the Virgin River flowing along the edge of the campground, and surrounded by wilderness areas. Joshua trees are prevalent.
The area has mild winters with highs frequently reaching in the 50s; summers are very warm with highs often above 100 degrees. The area often has strong winds due to being located in a large canyon.
The recreation area has 108 sites. The area has paved loops between sites and three flush toilet restrooms.
The host site overlooks the upper loop of the recreation area. The host site has a shade covering, water and electric hook ups, and a small laundry and refrigerator shed. No per diem will be paid.
