DESCRIPTION:
This announcement is for the Oak Ridge Campground at Prince William Forest Park in Northern Virginia. The campground is open from March through November; volunteer opportunities exist for all or part of this period, with a minimum commitment of 6 weeks required.
A National Park Service campground host’s primary duties are to help park staff ensure that campers have a safe and enjoyable visit and are aware of campground rules and regulations. The host monitors the campground and its facilities, assists with problem solving when issues arise, and provides excellent representation for the park and for the National Park Service.
· Provide helpful, friendly, and courteous general assistance to visitors
· Assisting campers with campground registration when necessary (the campground requires online self-registration through Recreation.gov)
· Provide information on park and campground regulations, monitor compliance with those regulations, provide visitor education in case of low-level infraction, and contact law enforcement staff for resolution if infractions continue
· Provide visitors with information about recreational opportunities in the park
· Performing minor campground maintenance projects
· Utilizing portable park radio communications
· Assure campsites and firepits are clean
· Light maintenance in restrooms. Restock toilet paper and soap dispensers, unclog toilets as needed.
· Friendly, polite, and respectful to visitors and staff
· Able to work independently and as a member of a team
· Able to communicate effectively with others
· Reliable, punctual, and service-oriented
· Willing to learn about the park in order to share that information with visitors
· Able to work 30 hours weekly (this is the National Park Service volunteer minimum standard in exchange for a full-hookup RV site)
The campground host will be required to wear the National Park Service volunteer uniform. A valid state driver’s license is required.

Prince William Forest Park, a unit of the National Park Service, is the largest outdoor recreational green space in the Washington DC metro area. Despite being a short drive into the city, the park is an oasis of green space, quiet, and recreational opportunities to include 37 miles of hiking trails and 21 miles of biking trails.
