OVERVIEW:

Lafayette Blue Springs is a first magnitude spring located along the Suwannee River near the town of Mayo in north Florida. The summertime brings lots of families to the springs to find refreshment in the 72-degree water and picnic in the shade of oak and sweet gum trees or under the two available pavilions. The park boat ramp allows fishermen to launch into the river for the day in search of bass, channel catfish, red-bellies and bream.

REQUIRED SKILLS & ABILITIES:

Grounds maintenance skills along with house hold cleaning knowledge necessary, ability to carry 15lb linen tote up stairs (24 steps).

Must pass National and Florida Sexual Predator check.

Site is 20′ X 60′ hard packed pea-gravel with picnic table, fire ring, swing, water, 50-30-20 electric and sewer. Full size stove/oven, washer & dryer in shop building. Cellular service; Verizon, AT&T – good.

SCHEDULING REQUIREMENTS:

Minimum of 20 hours per week per campsite, 8 to 16 week commitment preferred.

TRAINING/PRE-REQUISITS:

Training and tools for job specific work will be provided by the park.

In the Volunteer Portal, have a Volunteer Application and a current Volunteer Agreement and Volunteer DEP Annual Combo Training (diversity, sexual harassment & workers’ compensation), both renewed annually. You may be asked to provide a valid form of state issued identification.

Upon completion of your first 50 hours, you will receive a free entrance pass* to the park you currently serve and 6 visits for you and your family to any other state park
Upon completion of 250 hours, you will receive a special volunteer annual pass for you and your family to any Florida State Park (*request passes from the Volunteer Manager. Some restrictions apply)
Join us in park staff gatherings (i.e., potlucks, celebrations, holiday parties, etc.) and the annual district Volunteer Appreciation gathering
Be a part of the Florida Park Service family, working alongside like-minded staff and volunteers
