DESCRIPTION:

The Red Rock Ranger District is in need of volunteer hosts to work at the beautiful Palatki heritage site from August 1st through October 31. The site is open to the public and is comprised of a Visitor Center and viewing platforms for 900 year old Sinagua dwellings and rock art.

This is not a campsite. Hosts will live on site, work regular 6 hour days, with three whole days off each week. An RV or Trailer is required for this position. The Forest Service provides free water, sewer, and electrical, with 30 and 50 amp hookups. Washer, dryer, full kitchen, and shower are available in the visitor center free of charge.

Hosts will be reimbursed $20 per workday. Work weeks can be either Wednesday through Thursday, or Sunday through Wednesday.

Preference will be made to couple’s who have customer service skills, with experience in interpretation and education. Host will be trained on interpretive techniques and information by Forest Service and Friend of the Forest docents.

 

 

DUTIES

Day to day activities include staffing a visitor center, book and clothing sales, general landscaping, cleaning of public restroom facilities, and interpreting prehistoric rock art.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Hosts must enjoy working with the public and disseminating recreational opportunities and information. Comfort with public speaking and providing interpretive programs is a main component of the job.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Volunteers will be working both indoors and outdoors, however the site will close when temps reach 100 degrees. Hosts are NOT expected to work in dangerous weather conditions. Hours of operation will be adjusted during summer months.
