L.L. Stub Stewart State Park is looking for volunteer cabin hosts to join our team!
Position: Mountaindale Cabin Village Host
Duration: January 2024
Days off: Thursday, Friday, and Saturday
Hours: 30 per week
Duties:
- Communicate well with park staff and visitors. Be a courteous and constructive member of our team.
- Be a positive, professional presence in the park. Help campers find their sites, check-in, and purchase amenities like walk-in reservations, ice, and firewood. Answer questions about the park and what it has to offer.
- Clean cabins after outgoing reservations leave: wipe down mattresses and touch surfaces, return lost and found items to park staff, clear fire pits of trash, sweep and mop floors, inform park staff of maintenance needs, etc.
- Fulfill the duties of Horse Camp relief host on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays: litter pick and clean camp sites, update reservation tags, and sell fire wood, ice and walk-in reservations in horse camp loop.
- Clean the Cabins Meeting Hall after reservations leave: wipe down sinks, bathrooms, and touch surfaces, sweep, mop, empty garbage cans, dust, wipe down windows, turn lost and found items in, etc.
- Ensure that reservation tags on cabins are up to date and accurate using provided morning paperwork
- Check cabin loop restrooms for messes and inform park staff if extra cleaning is necessary (Park Rangers will clean the restrooms daily). Re-stock paper products. Assist park rangers with bathroom rag laundry.
- Be the eyes and ears of the park: inform Park Ranger on duty when changes occur in the cabin loop (walk-in reservation sales, early check-outs etc.). Inform OPRD staff if any problems or rules violations occur.
- Maintain lawns and landscaping. Utilize hand tools such as loppers, litter pickers, shovels, and rakes. Operate motorized equipment such as small utility vehicles, mowers, weedwhackers, and blowers in accordance with OPRD safety trainings and directives.
- Other tasks as assigned by Park Rangers
- This position requires frequently standing, walking, kneeling, and reaching. It frequently requires lifting, pushing, or pulling objects weighing up to 20 lbs. and may occasionally require moving objects weighing up to 50 lbs.

All candidates that apply are screened through an interview process with the park’s Volunteer Service Leader before being offered a position. Any position offer is contingent on passing a DMV and criminal background check, as well as completing required annual harassment and discrimination trainings and park host safety trainings.
