DESCRIPTION:
As a U.S. Forest Service volunteer, you will maintain one of four developed recreation sites on Osceola National Forest (campground or day-use area) and provide customer service to visitors. Volunteers must stay onsite in a camper or RV and be available every day of the week (exceptions may be discussed). Approximate workload is 30 hours/week. Pets are welcome but must be discussed prior to accepting this volunteer position. Volunteers may stay for a maximum of 6 months. Experience hosting campgrounds or public recreation areas is preferred, but not required. Training and instruction for required tasks will be provided. Optimal candidates are self-motivated with the ability to work both independently and with other people.
DUTIES
-Greeting and educating visitors about recreation site rules
-Janitorial services (clean restrooms, empty trash cans)
-Lawn & campsite maintenance
-Camping fee compliance checks
-General facility maintenance
VOLUNTEER AMENITIES ONSITE (FREE OF CHARGE)
-Electric, water, and sewer hookup
-Laundry washer and dryer
-Reimbursement for propane
-Golf cart (most locations)
OSCEOLA NATIONAL FOREST
The Osceola National Forest is conveniently located in North Florida between Jacksonville and Lake City. It’s just a short drive to multiple beaches, rivers, freshwater springs, the University of Florida and UF Health/Shands Medical Center, historic sites (e.g., St. Augustine, Florida’s oldest city), and the state capitol (Tallahassee).
