Job Title: Ranger Station Host/Maintenance Internship (1-2 Positions)

Ranger Station Host/Maintenance Positions (alaska.gov) – General information.

Organization: Alaska State Parks – Kenai/PWS

Location: Kachemak Bay State Park, Alaska

Duration: May 16th to August 15th (Some may work until September 1 or later)

About Us: Alaska State Parks is seeking enthusiastic individuals for Ranger Station Host/Maintenance positions at the Halibut Cove Lagoon Ranger Station in Kachemak Bay State Park. This unique opportunity allows individuals to contribute to the operation and maintenance of facilities in a breathtaking wilderness setting.

Position: Ranger Station Host

Main Tasks:

•              Assist in the operation and maintenance of Halibut Cove Lagoon Ranger Station, including public-use cabins, latrines, dock, campsites, and boardwalks.

•              Provide assistance to the public with inquiries and directions.

•              Maintain facilities, including a gravity feed water system, hydroelectric/solar/wind power inverter system, latrines, dock, and public-use cabins.

•              Conduct brush cutting, sawyer work, carpentry tasks, and maintain the area around the station.

Required Skills:

•              Valid driver’s license.

•              Ability to work in a remote setting.

•              Working knowledge of basic hand and power tools.

Desired Skills:

•              Public relations skills; act as an ambassador to park visitors.

•              Maintenance skills

Allowance/Housing:

•              Monthly food subsistence payment.

•              Housing and cooking facilities provided at the Ranger Station during the workweek.

•              Shared bunk/living space provided in Homer on days off.

Transportation:

•              Must provide transportation to Homer, Alaska.

•              Group use of a Sate vehicle in Homer for shopping and State business.

•              RV or motorhome owners may park at facilities for use on days off in Homer.

Training Provided:

Time Commitment: Preference to applicants available from May 16th to August 15th.

Schedule: Flexible but must be able to spend up to 1 week in a remote cabin.
