DESCRIPTION:
Bridger-Teton National Forest is looking for energetic, hardworking volunteer to serve as host at Sacajawea Campground and adjacent day use sites. This opportunity is in the Wyoming Mountain Range on the Big Piney RD, near the town of Big Piney, WY. Seeking people who love being good stewards of the land, have excellent customer service skills, friendly and patient personalities, ability to perform daily campsite and restroom cleaning, light maintenance, and visitation monitoring where applicable. Volunteer hosts must own their own accommodation (RV/Camper/Motorhome) to live on site; tents are not permitted. A host campsite is provided at no cost to the volunteer. Campground is open from late May until snowfall in October.
Campground information:
Sacajawea Campground is located on the Middle Piney Road just east of Middle Piney Lake. The campground is in a cool shaded area, surrounded by trees, located on Middle Piney Creek. The campground has 25 individual sites. 4 vault toilets, non-potable water and trash service, there are sites large enough to accommodate trailers, but does not have trailer hookups. Sacajawea Campground puts visitors in the heart of the Big Piney Ranger District with quick access to the Wyoming Range National Recreation Trail, Middle Piney Lake, North Piney Lake ATV trail and the historic Lander Cutoff of the Oregon Trail. Campground does not have water, electric or cell phone service. And is located approx. 25 miles (40 minutes) from the town of Big Piney, which offers services.
Community Information:
Big Piney offers basic services including a regional bank, a grocery store, senior center, day care facilities, a town government, police and fire protection, several churches, one post office, The nearby community of Pinedale provides additional services, just 35 minutes away. A medical clinic located close by in Mableton is equipped to provide all of the primary family care services found at most traditional doctor’s offices. The clinic is equipped with emergency room facilities and staffed with providers and nurses. There is also a community exercise facility and recreation center that can be used 24 hours a day with specific pass purchase, and a new movie theater and bowling alley that provide additional in- town, recreation opportunities.
Duties:
Ensuring that campers pay their fees is one of the host’s primary duties. Fees collected at the site pay for, site improvements, and law enforcement patrols. Campground hosts conduct both morning and evening checks to verify that campers have paid their fees/ are displaying their permits and are abiding by vehicle limits and campground rules. The host records displayed fee permits and license plate information that is then submitted to the Forest Service Recreation Technicians to verify payment. Hosts request that visitors pay when they have failed to display campsite fee permit. Hosts will also inform visitors about general regulations including: quiet hours (10 p.m.-6 a.m.), parking, and leashing pets

Other Primary Duties include:
Make rounds through the campground and be observant; politely remind campers of rules and regulations, if needed, and update Recreation Technicians on anything noteworthy. Clean all bathrooms a daily basis. Perform daily minor campsite maintenance tasks such as cleaning picnic tables, picking up trash, documenting and extinguishing abandoned campfires, sweeping, shoveling, raking, and ash removal from fire pits/grills.
Previous host experience is helpful but not required.
