JOB DESCRIPTION:
The volunteer(s) will work Thursday through Monday (40 hours a week) and will assist Forest Service Employees in the daily operations of the various campgrounds or day use area. Depending on location, this includes but is not limited to:
-Oversight of campground that includes cleaning and stocking vault toilets
-Manage visitor use and advising of rules and regulations
-Trash maintenance
-Talk to visitors and answering questions
-Provide information about recreation opportunities on the forest
-Educate visitors on fire safety and Leave No Trace/Tread Lightly! principles
Training and a district orientation will be provided. A minimum commitment from mid-May through at least Labor Day Weekend is required. A federal background check will be conducted upon award of the position. If couples wish to both volunteer an application must be completed for EACH person.The volunteer must always present a neat, professional appearance and wear appropriate uniform components and name plate while working in the public eye and on official duty. This position requires wearing volunteer shirt/vest components, which will be provided to you at no cost. Volunteer must have their own self-contained RV/Fifth Wheel or travel trailer as there are no hookups. These are boondocking positions. The volunteer will be trained in and adhere to all Forest Service Volunteer policy and guidelines. Campsites at Los Burros CG is described as a “get-a-way off the beaten path,” and located north of McNary in meadows and wooded areas. This first come-first served campground is characterized by a scattering of aspen trees throughout the area.Lewis Canyon CG, located near Pinedale, AZ, is located in the ponderosa pines at an elevation of 6,000ft. Lewis Canyon is a large single-group campsite that requires reservations through Recreation.gov. Scott Reservoir is located 2 miles from the town of Pinetop-Lakeside, and is currently closed as a campground due to maintenance issues. The host at this location manages the area for day use. Position is NOT required or permitted to collect fees from campers or visitors.
