An Interpreter is one of the most critical volunteer positions at Burnsville Lake because the Bulltown Historic Area is not staffed with government employees. This area, which is located adjacent to Bulltown Campground, includes a Visitor Center, historic structures dating back to the mid to late 1800’s, the Bulltown Battlefield, which is the site of the Civil War Battle of Bulltown, and the turn-of-the-century Cunningham Farmstead. Self-guiding trails and a section of the Weston and Gauley Bridge Turnpike are available for visitors to walk. Special programs and tours are available during the summer months. This volunteer should be familiar with the Bulltown Historical Area, should be well-versed in the history of Bulltown and the Battle of Bulltown, and shall have an effective ability to getting the message across to our visitors, especially younger visitors. The volunteer shall assist the Ranger staff with interpretive outreach services. Most duties will consist of presenting interpretive programs and conducting tours of the historical area and battlefield.
