Job Description
ADDRESS: Mount Rainier National Park; 55210 238th Avenue East; Ashford, Washington 98304
DEPT: National Park Service
DESCRIPTION:
This is a full-time volunteer opportunity for the 2021 season. The White River Campground has a primitive site for the host.
Spend your summer as a Campground Host at Mount Rainier National Park! Hosts are selected each year for the Cougar Rock, Ohanapecosh, and White River Campgrounds. The primary duties and responsibilities of the campground host are to help National Park Service personnel ensure that campers have a safe, enjoyable visit and ensuring that campers are aware of campground rules and regulations. Volunteers must be identifiable to the public. Uniform consists of dark brown pants/shorts and a khaki work shirt with VIP patch sewn on the left-hand sleeve. Volunteers may obtain volunteer work shirts and hats at the volunteer cache or from the VIP Supervisor.
White River Campground: May 28-October 2
A commitment of at least 32 hours per week and weekend availability is required. The White River Campground is a primitive campground, a primitive site would be designated for the host. This campground is a First Come, First Serve primitive campground with a picnic day use area. Please also note that Mount Rainier is a remote, semi-wilderness location. None of our campgrounds currently have cell service or Internet access, though phone and Internet are both available to volunteers at nearby ranger stations (with the completion of a background check prior to your appointment). Our season dates are from Memorial Day through the end of September. Partial season assignments may be possible. Contact Theresa Moore at 360-569-6623 for more information.
