DEPT: Fish & Wildlife Service
DATES: 5/25/2021 – 10/14/2021
DESCRIPTION: Campground assistants are volunteers who spend one or more weekends serving in National Wildlife Refuge campgrounds. Assistants are friendly, enjoy the outdoors, and serve as campground stewards for the enjoyment of visitors.
We are looking for one or two independent and energetic volunteers seeking one or more rustic and relaxing weekends. Sheldon National Wildlife Refuge in Nevada offers opportunities for viewing raptors, bighorn sheep, sage grouse, and many other wildlife of the high desert.
Weekend Campground Assistants will schedule weekend volunteer shifts between May 24 and October 15. Campground Assistants will stay in the Virgin Valley Campground, located in the heart of the famous Virgin Valley and less than a mile from the Headquarters Office. The Virgin Valley Campground offers a spacious Campground Host RV parking area with power, water, and septic. The stark contrast between the valley wetlands and surrounding arid desert which can be viewed from the relaxing comfort of the Virgin Valley Hot Springs pool attract many people to this location, making it one of the most popular areas in this remote part of Nevada. The Virgin Valley pond offers waterfowl viewing and excellent fishing opportunities for perch and crappie. The nearest full service communities are Winnemucca, Nevada located 130 miles south and Lakeview, Oregon located 90 miles west.
