DEPT: U.S. Army Corps of Engineers
DATES: 3/31/2022 – 9/29/2022
DESCRIPTION:
Volunteers needed for Knights Ferry Recreation Area at Stanislaus River Parks.
Volunteers are needed for three-month terms. Volunteer park hosts ensure that the parks’ two entrance gates are open in the morning and secured at sunset. They conduct periodic walkthroughs of the park, greet the public and answer questions. Park hosts are needed to staff the site’s Information Center on Saturdays, Sundays, and federal holidays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Park hosts do not enforce regulations; however, they are expected to be additional eyes and ears of the park rangers. Park hosts may be needed to assist during emergencies.
Hosts’ days off are either Tuesday to Wednesday or Wednesday to Thursday.
Knights Ferry Recreation Area is a popular put-in spot for river rafters and authorized for day use only. No overnight camping is available for visitors. The community of Knights Ferry is rich in history, and the host site is in view of the longest covered bridge west of the Mississippi River. The bridge is open to foot traffic only.
In exchange for volunteer services, hosts will be provided with, an RV site, electricity, water, and sewage at no charge. The host is required to maintain a telephone at their own expense. The park address is 17968 Covered Bridge Road, Oakdale, CA, 95361.
