We’re seeking campground hosts to join our team at Chiricahua National Monument. Come live and work in beautiful southeast Arizona!
Join our team at Chiricahua National Monument! We’re excited to recruit volunteers to serve as campground hosts for the 25-site Bonita Canyon Campground. This facility is located at an elevation of 5,400 feet in an oak-pine forest area situated along Bonita Creek.
Timeframe for this opportunity is April-June, 2022, but can be extended depending on volunteer interest. Volunteers work 32 hours a week, with a schedule of 4 days on and 3 days off. Trailer or RV length limit is 29 feet.
Volunteers need to be physically able to walk 1-3 miles a day. Duties are mostly completed outside. Spring is the busiest season with the campground filled nightly by people with advanced reservations. See our weather chart to review average high and low temperatures throughout the year. Beginning in January 2022, all volunteers accessing NPS buildings must:
Complete and present a Certification of Vaccination form (OMB Control No. 3206-0277). If they have NOT attested to being fully vaccinated, they must also possess and present a negative COVID-19 test result from within the 3 days immediately prior to the date of entry; and
Maintain completed form (and test result, if necessary) on their person for the duration of their visit and present it to the volunteer manager or supervisor, as needed; and
Comply with all public health protocols in place at the park or office.
Volunteers who do not access NPS buildings, such as volunteers working outside only for a one day event, are only required to comply with other public health protocols in place, such as masking, social distancing, and hand washing.

· Welcome campers, answer questions, and assist with same day camper registration.
· Utilize Recreation.gov to confirm camper registration and post daily reservation site tags.
· Inform campers about campground regulations and answer visitor questions
· Rove the campground and ensure regulation compliance by campers.
· Light maintenance- cleaning grills, checking food storage boxes, and raking tent pads.
· Other projects may be assigned depending on the interest of the volunteer(s)
Note- This position does not require cleaning bathrooms or major maintenance tasks.
· Excellent verbal communication skills
· Ability to work with others, staff and visitors, in a positive manner
· Enthusiasm for public service
· A desire to be a part of a dynamic and energetic team
· Ability to hike 1-3 miles a day
· Ability to work independently with little to no supervision

A campsite with full hook-ups (electricity, water, sewer) internet service and a local landline telephone are provided. Uniforms are required and supplied by the park.
The park has 17 miles of day-use hiking trails and is nearly surrounded by the Coronado National Forest for backpacking opportunities. Local points of interest include Fort Bowie National Historic Site, Coronado National Memorial, Tombstone, and Bisbee. Willcox is the closest community with services and is 37 miles from the monument.
