DESCRIPTION:
Campground hosts are seasonal volunteers who serve in National Wildlife Refuge campgrounds. Hosts are friendly, enjoy the outdoors and are eager to learn and share their knowledge.
We are looking for one or two independent and energetic volunteers seeking a rustic and relaxing summer. Hart Mountain National Antelope Refuge in Oregon offers opportunities for viewing pronghorn, mule deer, sage grouse, hiking, fishing, and touring the rugged backcountry roads.
Campground hosts will work 10 weeks between August 1st and October 12th. Hosts will stay in the Camp Hart Campground, located about 9 miles down Hart Mountain Rd. from the Refuge Headquarters Office and about another 5 miles from the relaxing Hart Mountain Hot Springs. The nearest full service community is Lakeview, Oregon and is located 69 miles southwest.
- Welcome the public to the campground and other nearby locations on the refuge
- Provide visitor information
- Maintain Refuge Campgrounds and facilities (including trash pickup, cleaning outhouses, and miscellaneous duties as needed)
- May assist with repairing, replacing, and installing campground tables, fire rings, and signs
- May assist with additional refuge volunteer projects
- Willing to work 32 hours per week, including weekends and holidays
- Desire to talk with and inform the public about rules and regulations
- Valid driver’s license
- Must provide own tent or RV for minimum of 10 week stay
- Propane and full RV hook-up provided
