DESCRIPTION:
Maintenance volunteers are needed starting in February 2022 through October 2022, ideally spending at least 6 consecutive months volunteering in the park with a minimum of 3 consecutive months. 32+ hours of service time per week. Duties include general upkeep and care of facilities throughout the park, as well as help with special projects. RV/trailer site is provided and includes water, electricity, and sewer. Having your own RV/trailer is required for this volunteer position.
Redwood National and State Parks is seeking enthusiastic maintenance volunteers. Maintenance volunteers will perform a wide range of duties in order to assist with the general upkeep and care of facilities throughout the park, as well as help with special projects. Volunteers will need general knowledge and skills associated with construction, carpentry, plumbing, and electrical. Maintenance volunteers are needed starting in February 2022 through October 2022 and will work 32+ hours/week, with consecutive days off to explore the park and local area. RV/trailer site is provided and includes water, electricity, and sewer. It is required for maintenance volunteer to have their own RV or trailer to qualify for this position.
Volunteers will need general knowledge and skills associated with construction, carpentry, plumbing, and electrical for all duties associated with this volunteer position.
Maintenance
1. General carpentry – repairing/replacing building siding, decking, walkways, benches, etc.
2. General plumbing – replacing toilets/sinks, repairing leaks, fixing other plumbing issues
3. General electrical – replacing lights, fixing light switches, adding light switches/power outlets, etc.
4. General construction – building of various structures, some examples are decks, benches, stairs, ramps, etc.
5. Other projects or duties as assigned by supervisor, falling within the same general knowledge and skills associated with other duties
6. General housekeeping – clean up after work is done (sweeping, dusting, mopping)
Safety
1. Report emergencies via park radio immediately to dispatch/law enforcement.
2. Where needed training will be provided, as well as PPE. Volunteers are required to follow all safety guidelines in place for both NPS and CDPR.
General Visitor Services
1. Maintenance work will take place at park visitor centers or park facilities which could require volunteers to interact with the public for short instances. A general knowledge of the park and where they can get more information will be required.
Applicants should have a strong desire and willingness to work in a busy park with several facilities, be able to get along with others in a team setting, and able to work outdoors. Applicants must be reliable and willing to seriously commit to their agreed upon schedule, as well be self-motivated and able to work independently. A general knowledge and skills associated with construction, carpentry, plumbing, and electrical is needed in all applicants. Being able to lift up to 50 lbs. and work on your feet or knees for an extended period of time is desired. Applicants need to have a valid driver’s license, as well as their own RV/trailer to stay in. A resume and references might be requested from applicants before being interviewed for this position.

Applicants will be working outdoors primarily performing maintenance/general upkeep on park facilities. Some work can take place indoors. Weather is typically quite nice during the summer; it can be quite foggy on the coast with mild temperatures.
