Job Description
Oliver Reservoir Recreation Area is seeking friendly and hard-working individuals and couples to be CAMP HOSTS for our 2022 season! This is an exciting opportunity to work in the hospitality field while spending time outdoors and assisting campers.
We have opportunities for both individuals and couples! If you are applying to work as a couple, each person needs to complete a separate application.
This is a volunteer opportunity. Applicants must pass a background check and be at least 18 years of age. The applicant must be outgoing, courteous, and helpful to all visitors.
The applicant must provide their own functional recreational vehicle for living accommodations.
The NRD will provide electricity and water for the camp host. A 30/50 Amp hookup, water hydrant and sewage hookup are located at the camp host site. Tents are not allowed by the campground host.
About Oliver Reservoir Recreation Area:
The Oliver Reservoir Recreation Area (ORRA) encompasses more than 917 acres of land and a 264-acre lake, located 8 miles west of Kimball, Nebraska on U.S. HWY 30. Oliver is the only recreation area of its kind in the southern Panhandle. GPS: Lat.41.22; Long. -103.82
The lake is stocked with walleye, yellow perch, largemouth bass, channel catfish, bluegill and rainbow trout. Ducks and geese frequent the area, accompanied by deer and other wildlife.
There are 60 campsites, 6 bathrooms and 2 shelter houses, picnic areas, playground, firepits, grills, handicapped-accessible fishing dock and parking lots.
Also enjoy boating, water skiing, jet skiing, kayaking, scuba diving, footpaths, fishing, bird watching, wildlife viewing and hiking.
Responsibilities: The successful candidate will be responsible for checking in/checking out campers, greet visitors; provide assistance and information; explain park rules, and camp checks; report hazards or unsafe conditions and emergencies immediately to the SPNRD staff; contact NRD or appropriate personnel to address rules & regulations violations; perform other duties as assigned; maximize use of the campsites as to the appropriate sized vehicle for specific sites; experience in the recreation industry preferred; knowledgeable about visitor services and amenities in the campground; positive attitude toward the campground environment; genuine concern for guests’ experience; ability to work unsupervised.
Qualifications: The Ability to read, write and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos; high level of interpersonal communication skills, self-motivation; ability to work independently and problem solve; previous experience of campground operations preferred; The applicant must be outgoing, courteous, and helpful to all park visitors; report to the Natural Resources Conservationist at the South Platte Natural Resources District.
Physical Requirements: Must be able to walk some distance when verifying campers have registered.
