JOB DESCRIPTION:

We are looking for volunteers to serve as campground hosts at Turkey Fork Recreation Area, part of the Chickasawhay District of the DeSoto National Forest, that are available for a minimum of 4 months beginning February 2025 with the opportunity to extend into the next winter season. Start and end dates are flexible. Both individuals and couples are welcome to apply. Volunteers arriving as can expect to work 20 to 30 hours each week in exchange for RV site and hookups.  Campground Hosts must have own RV. A full hook-up site electricity (50 amp), water, and sewage will be provided to hosts.

Position Description:

We are seeking enthusiastic, friendly volunteers to serve as campground hosts to ensure that our visitors have a memorable and safe experience while enjoying all the Forest has to offer. Duties for this position include providing orientation and information to visitors; answering information requests; assisting with campground reservations; performing minor maintenance and cleaning of the recreation area, performing grounds maintenance and trail work; ensuring the refuge is free of litter.

Volunteers may work independently or as part of a team of refuge volunteers directed by the Recreation Technicians and Recreation Program Manager.

 

Requirements:

Ensuring a clean and well-maintained site for the public is of the utmost importance. Strong customer service skills and some public speaking ability is required. All volunteers must have the ability to communicate with a wide variety of visitors while maintaining a positive attitude, show enthusiasm for serving the public. While natural history knowledge is helpful, it is not required. Applicants must have a valid driver’s license and pass a background check. On-site orientation, training, and a uniform will be provided to wear while on-duty.
