JOB DESCRIPTION:
Help support the education program at Lewis and Clark National Historical Park by becoming an Education Associate Volunteer!
Support education and deliver programs and activities to a student audience. Students are primarily 1st-8th graders, and on rare occasion pre-k, high school, and university students. Group sizes range from 10-25 students at a time, up to 200 per day.
Activities may include:
Instructing students in the completion of a seek and find sheet in the visitor center.
Guiding students down a moderately steep 0.25 mile dirt and bark mulch trail to identify plants and explore history and uses of plants.
Providing flintlock muzzleloading demonstration in period dress.
Providing fire-starting demonstrations in period dress.
Guiding students on hikes of varying difficulties from 1 to 6.5 miles.
Leading students in natural resources activities such as bird identification, dip netting, water quality science, and other citizen science activities.
Reading children’s books aloud and acting as puppeteer or presenter for children’s puppet shows.
Other activities developed by staff as trained in and assigned.
Minimum time requirement is 4 hours/week. Volunteers contributing 32 hours+ per week are eligible for a provided RV site 15 minutes away from the site.
