ADDRESS: 1371 Wildlife Drive Springville, Tennessee, 38356
DATES: 3/1/2025 – 11/1/2025
DEPT: Fish & Wildlife Service
JOB DESCRIPTION:
Tennessee National Wildlife Refuge is over 51,000 acres comprised of forests, farmlands, wetlands and grasslands, all set aside for the conservation of migratory birds. The refuge was established in 1945 following the Migratory Bird Act and is now home to 316 bird species in a state that has 411 species total. While our focus is on waterfowl, our management practices benefit a wide variety of other species ranging from 144 fish species, 51 mammals, and 89 reptiles and amphibians.
The refuge is seeking a volunteer who is able to assist with mowing, litter pickup and some field work projects. If you are a hands-on individual, our refuge might be a great fit for you! The refuge is also actively searching for a visitor services volunteer to assist with front desk receptionist who will greet and inform visitors about the refuge and its public use opportunities. We ask that the volunteer or volunteer couple work 24 hours per week. In return, the refuge will provide a full hookup, covered R.V. pad, conveniently located laundry facility access, propane refills, a work vehicle and any personal protection equipment you may need. You would not necessarily have to work this whole period, but can come for segments of this duration.
This position is not all work and no play, there are a variety of attractions both on and off the refuge to check out during your off days! We are located directly on Kentucky Lake, and there are many other public land areas nearby such as Paris Landing State Park, Fort Donalson National Battlefield, and Land Between the Lakes. If that isn’t enough to persuade you, there are also several local mom and pop restaurants nearby that offer a fantastic meal and experience.
