JOB DESCRIPTION:
Redwood National and State Parks is seeking a full-time Interpretation Volunteer for the Division of Interpretation. The volunteer will assist in the operation of Redwood National and State Parks’ southern visitor centers. Duties include providing quality customer service and frontline orientation, information, and/or interpretation about the parks to diverse visitors in person and by telephone; handling cash and credit transactions for the cooperating conservancy’s (Redwood Parks Conservancy) merchandise; performing daily visitor center opening/closing and accounting; and, conducting park roves to gather information about park resources and conditions, and to provide informal contacts with visitors.
In addition, the volunteer may have the opportunity to assist with interpretive programming including ranger-led forest walks through iconic redwood groves and more. Volunteers will occasionally get to work in a different visitor center. Applicants must be able to repeatedly lift loads of 25 lbs. and have sure footing on uneven and slick surfaces. The ideal candidates for this position are outgoing individuals with strong communication skills and an attention to detail. Volunteers must possess good customer service skills, and the ability to work cooperatively with cross-functional teams. Ideally volunteers will spend a minimum of 3 consecutive months, 6 months consecutively if possible. 32+ hours of service time per week. RV/trailer site is provided and includes water, electricity, and sewer. Having your own RV/trailer is required for this volunteer position.
