DESCRIPTION:
RV Trailer pads with full hook-up may be available for volunteers committing to 32 hours/week for multiple months.
Description of Duties:
- Staff visitor center(s) providing orientation, information and informal interpretation to visitors on park resources, safety, etc
- Assists with basic visitor center operations such as issuing backcountry permits, providing day hiking information, interacting with Junior Rangers
- May assist with set-up and takedown of the mobile visitor centers following established guidelines
- Position wears a VIP uniform
Knowledge/Skills/Experience Desired:
- Customer service experience and skills
- Ability to learn, understand and communicate topics and information to visitors
- Outgoing, people-oriented and positive attitude
- Ability to climb a ladder, lift 30 lbs. and maneuver in small spaces.
Special Requirements:
- Ability to stand for long periods and answer repetitive questions with patience and a positive attitude
- Knowledge of park facilities, trails, resources and safety-related issues
- Effective communication skills
- Conservation Education

Shenandoah National Park extends along the Blue Ridge Mountains in the state of Virginia. The Skyline Drive runs its length, and a vast network of trails includes a section of the long-distance Appalachian Trail. Mostly forested, the park features wetlands, waterfalls and rocky peaks like Hawksbill and Old Rag mountains. Shenandoah is home to many bird species, plus deer, squirrels and the elusive black bear.
