Job Description
The Great Basin Institute is seeking dedicated personnel for 2024 RV volunteer positions in support of the Tallac Historic Site in South Lake Tahoe, CA. Volunteers work directly with Forest Service and GBI staff to maintain successful operations of the site, ensuring the continued preservation of facilities for public recreation and education. Volunteer duties are variable and are matched best as possible to the volunteer’s strengths. Typical tasks include, but are not limited to:
· Tour guide
· Museum docent
· Gift shop operations
· Artifact preservation
· Building and grounds maintenance
· Program and special event operations
· Visitor information
How it works:
Volunteers are recruited to complete a 10-week work session, during which an RV campsite will be provided at no cost to the volunteer. Two volunteer campgrounds are available, both within a short walking distance to Lake Tahoe and a 15-minute drive to the city of South Lake Tahoe. In exchange, RV volunteers serve 4 days/week, for a total of 28 hours.
Three sessions will be available in 2024, with the following schedule:
Spring: May 6 to July 14
Summer: July 15 to Sept. 22
*Fall: Sept. 23 to Nov. 2
*This session is a 6-week duration, as operations wind down for the year during this time.

Compensation and Benefits:
This is a volunteer position and is not paid. RV site with hookups is available at no cost to the volunteer for the duration of the term of service. Additional volunteer rewards may be available, depending on length of service.
