Job Description
Listing Titled, “*A Park Resident Tour Guide- Starting May 2023 at Trapper Nelson’s along the Loxahatchee River!”
Visitor Services
Unique Park Resident Position Available- Beginning May 2023!
Voted #2 in the country by USA today for Best state parks for RVers! Come see why our park is top notch! Located on the Treasure Coast in between the bustling downtown of West Palm Beach and the more laid back downtown of Stuart. Jonathan Dickinson is 10,500 acres and sits along 9 miles of the Loxahatchee River- 1 of 2 designated wild and scenic rivers in Florida. This park offers a serene setting while being centrally located to all the creature comforts of grocery stores, amazing restaurants, and not to mention beaches! Come hang out in a fun environment with a beautiful setting.
This volunteer opportunity for Trapper Nelson Interpretive Site requires a 24-hour work week per site as a park resident volunteer and given a site with full hookups (water/sewer/electric). Minimum stay 4 weeks, maximum stay 16 weeks. Unfortunately, our park does not have WIFI, but does have decent cell reception. We are also pet friendly, but it is mandatory that pets remain on a leash.
We will provide in house training and all equipment needed for job completion.
The Basics:
This volunteer position will be staying on-site at the legendary Trapper Nelson area of the park! This area of the park is a more remote portion right along the Loxahatchee River and is about a 20-minute drive to in-town errands. Past and current volunteers enjoy the solitude of living at Trappers for the diverse wildlife they see, ranging from Osprey to Bobcats to the brilliant night sky. Volunteers will need to be self-contained as there are no bathhouses within immediate vicinity. See firsthand how the “Tarzan of the Loxahatchee” lived and all the amazing structures he built by hand! Some of the duties for this job include:
Guiding a small group of visitors around with confidence and knowledge of the history of this infamous property
Cleaning and sanitizing bathrooms and buildings to park standard
Maintaining and upkeep of property, minor repairs to lights and fixtures and fences, mowing grass, removing hazards such as downed tree limbs or debris as appropriate to ensure guest safety
Communicate effectively to Rangers on duty with any safety issues on site
