OVERVIEW:

The Savannas Preserve State Park and the Indian River Lagoon Aquatic Preserves (IRLAP) Office are partnering to offer a very unique opportunity for Park Resident Volunteers. The Park Resident Volunteer site will be within the boundaries of the Savannas Preserve Miller Property (located near 3300 Lewis Street, Fort Pierce, FL 34981), however, most of the volunteer work conducted will be to assist IRLAP. The property is located within a residential area and is very quiet, with close access to I-95 and the Turnpike. There are stores nearby (Walmart, Home Depot) and restaurants near the Turnpike interchange. Trails along the property provide access to the North Fork of the St. Lucie River. The responsibilities of this position are mostly Maintenance and Field Work.

REQUIRED SKILLS & ABILITIES:

– Ability to work independently, as well as a member of a team

– Ability to tolerate harsh weather conditions, including high heat index

– Prior experience in trail maintenance, mowing, vehicle maintenance, painting, carpentry, light construction, power washing, gardening/landscaping, etc.

– Age requirement: 18+

– Background Check: Standard Sexual Predator Check (FL and National)

SCHEDULING REQUIREMENTS:

– Must complete 20 hours of volunteer work per week per RV site (hours may be shared between multiple individuals living in the RV)

– This position is asked to open and close a park gate on a daily basis at 8 a.m. and sunset respectively

– Minimum length of stay: 2 months

– Maximum length of stay: 4 months, based on availability

TRAINING:

– Florida State Park Online Volunteer Annual Trainings must be completed immediately upon arrival (if not already completed)

– Preferred, but not required: ATV/UTV Training, CPR/AED/First Aid, Boater’s Safety

SITE INFORMATION:

The sites are full hook-up including well-water (with water softener system), septic tank hook-up and a 50 AMP connection. No restroom or shower facilities are available. Ice is available on-site during office hours (Mon-Fri, 9 am – 5 pm). A washer is available for volunteer use, and volunteers may install a clothesline. There is no Wi-Fi available at the RV sites. We are also not able to accommodate for more than 2 well-behaved pets per RV. MAX RV size: 10 feet wide by 40 feet long. Semi-truck style cabs are not suitable for this site. A personally owned vehicle is required for daily travel.
