DESCRIPTION:

This is a minimum 32-hours per week volunteer position. The incumbent must furnish his or her own trailer or RV and live in the Basin Campground. Electric, water and sewer hookups are provided free of charge and propane is reimbursed. There are no public shower or laundry facilities available in the Basin. There is a new washing machine, dryer and refrigerator in the Basin for volunteers to use.

 

The Chisos Basin Campground is the most popular campground in Big Bend and sits high up in the Chisos Mountains at an elevation of 5,400 feet. There are 60 individual sites and 7 group campsites.

 

Also found in the Chisos Basin area is the Chisos Basin Visitor Center, the General Store and the Chisos Mountains Lodge, which houses the only restaurant in Big Bend National Park. The campground is a hub for hikers. Some of the park’s most spectacular and popular trials are nearby, including Lost Mine Trail, the Window Trail, the South Rim Trail, and the Pinnacle’s Trail leading to Emory Peak.
