Job Description
Highlands Hammock is seeking Camp Hosts for summer and fall!
Maintenance
Highlands Hammock State Park is one of Florida’s friendliest camping and hiking parks. Known for a magnificant old growth hammock, it is the home of the State of Florida Civilian Conservation Corps Museum. Located off of U.S. Highway 27 in Sebring, it is less than two hours from the Atlantic and Gulf Coasts and in proximity to Tampa, Sarasota, Ft. Myers and Orlando.
Family campground consists of 137 campsites and four large restrooms. Primitive wilderness campground has 16 sites and two group camps.
Volunteer Work Schedule:
Camp Hosts work 4 days on, 3 days off per week. Shifts are Sunday – Wednesday or Wednesday – Saturday. Minimum of 20 hours per week, with an average of 5 hours per day. Knowledge / skills in electrical, plumbing, carpentry, and automotive repair useful.
Description of Camp Host duties:
– Maintain campground facilities; Welcome and assist campers.
– Open / close park and adjacent management units.
– Clean and maintain campground restrooms.
– Clean campsites and fire rings of departing campers.
– Pick up litter; Collect trash and recyclables.
– General campground and picnic area facilities and grounds maintenance.
– Monitor activities in the campground and report any law enforcement matters to park staff.
– Report deficiencies, needs, and safety hazards to park staff in a timely manner.
– Follow uniform requirements.
– Track and report volunteer hours weekly.
Amenities:
Free campsite with water and 30 amp power hookups; No sewer connections; Campers use dump station in the family campground; Laundry and ice machine are available to Camp Hosts. WIFI is available on a limited basis at the Hammock Inn Concession.
