You will get to experience Cypress sloughs, slop forests, bottomland hardwood forests, Longleaf pine savannahs, wetlands, waterways and so much more! Big Thicket is a great place to engage with visitors at the front desk, help maintain one of our many hiking trails, work with our resource managers for planting and restoration opportunities, and even help with our canoe paddling program on the waterways of Big Thicket. There are so many ways to get involved, that you’re sure to find something you love and serve the National Park Service at the same time!
The visitor center is located on FM 420, seven miles north of Kountze, Texas. We will train volunteers how to accomplish the duties described above but volunteers must be willing to learn and able to perform tasks independently once trained. Volunteers who are familiar with the local area and our park are preferred, but volunteers who are willing to learn will also be accepted.
